This change honored Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who, on 30th December 1943, hoisted the Indian flag in Port Blair and declared the Andaman and Nicobar Islands free from British rule. He named Andaman Island as Shaheed and Nicobar Island as Swaraj.
